They are extremely weak on their own and are extremely easy pickings for predators that want an easy meal. The artwork for kobolds in 5e really emphasizes their draconic ancestry. They also worship the lesser god, Kurtulmak, a servant of Tiamat, who has been trapped in a cave-in by the gnome god Garl Glittergold for an extremely long time. Kobolds are smart in that they know that serving an all-powerful dragon is yet another thing that they can use to protect themselves and their lair. Specifically, kobolds worship dragons, a common ancestor but one that was graced with much more power than the average kobold. Much like a lot of the other early game minions in D&D, kobolds revere more powerful gods and creatures and dedicate their lives to serving them in some way.

As pack hunters they tend to stay in small groups as well, using these traps to get the jump on their enemy and rush in when their prey is weakened. They construct traps and build structures to help defend their dark caves. They’re small and frail, but they are wickedly clever creatures. They are fanatical pack hunters similar to the gnolls and kuo-toa, but they are much more clever in their methods. This week I wanted to dive into another “early game” creature, though these ones can be just as deadly to high-level players if you’re clever enough. You can hear the yipping now, they found you. You feel your bones crunch as dozens of stones are shot at you at lightning speed. That is until you foot is snapped-shut into a bear trap. As you traverse deeper and deeper with no sign of the cretins you begin to relax. My only main concern was the warforge who'd been the hardest to hit with all the magic it used to shield itself at the beginning of the fight & how he'd entered the arena as my gate neighbor. You carefully make your way down the dark tunnel – ever vigilant for a kobold ambush. I wanted to branch out with somethin beefy, somethin overly strong for what she was going into & I luff how her story developed with the concept of this super simple, super easy to set up D&D session. I was so happy makin a character like her as OP as I could for this fight everyone picked races that they were either comfortable with playin or playin a character they'd made before but hadn't been able to play much yet. She didn't die (she stabilized herself), but she wouldn't be able to fight at all for the rest of the fight. She sat back up with anger in her eyes, arrow in her head with another nat20 death save & managed to get up with 1HP ran straight for the tabaxi before he had the chance to shoot another arrow, & didn't realize a pitfall trap opened up beneath her hooves, smacked her head on the edge of the hole, fall into this 10-foot deep hole & the top closed after she didn't get back up. She came back with a nat20 roll as everyone else was fightin to see them off a ways & get up, but the tabaxi shot an arrow into her forehead & dropped her back down.

She managed to take down the gith in 1 swing & nearly beat the warforge into the wall before she went down the 1st time. So far, she'd entered the Marana Colosseum to fight in her 1st public battle outside of her home turf fightin against a dragonborn w-wings, a warforge, a tabaxi ridin a human druid shapeshifted into a wolf / bear, a 2-headed human & a githyanki.

She wields a greataxe / shield & nets as well as other items in her arsenal. At 1st, Katyusha didn't like the idea at all of bein pulled away from her friends & family to fight for this stranger, but after many years of trainin & discipline in the Koloseu Arena (colosseum), she's finally settled in that it's a good thing to fight for the king's praise & strives to win to send her earnings home for her family to use (even if she doesn't realize that the moment she'd been taken from her home, the village had been razed). She'd lived in a small village of other minotaurs until a nearby land's king claimed to help their community grow by forcefully offerin a select few to become gladiators in his arena to show off their strength & pride for their homeland of Arstotzka. Katyusha is a minotaur fighter / barbarian with auburn fur / hair & tannish skin, 34yo, 9'11", 557 Lbs., dark gray eyes. This big, strong woman is a character I made for Dungeons & Dragons since we wanted to try a fight night free-for-all style game where even I (the DM) could join in without havin to kill characters off for good it was more of a stress-relief kind of night for everyone where we could try & be as strong as we could without worryin about screwin up campaign plots or makin 1 up for the arena. "Glory to mother homeland! Glory to the king!"
